Third was Clear Channel Urban "103JAMZ" WOWI/102.9, then Entercom Rhythmic "Z104" WNVZ/104.5, Entercom AC "2WD" WWDE/101.3; Saga rocker "FM99" WNOR/98.7, Country "US106" WUSH/106.1 and Max Media CHR "Hot 100.5" WVHT, Max Media Country "97-3 The Eagle" WGH, and Variety Hits "93-7 BOB FM" WNOB.
On February 29, 2012 at 11:59 PM (local time), COX Communications’ contract to carry WAVY-TV and WVBT-TV will expire. The large, religious California-based Educational Media Foundation (EMF) is very close to signing-on its newly acquired signal WGTI/97.7 Winfall NC. EMF purchased the station from Lifeline Ministries for $800K.
WGTI is licensed as a Class A but is only doing 3kW at about 300ft way down near Windsor NC. The transmitter is in the process of being moved to Elizabeth City to cover its new COL (community of license) of Winfall NC. WGTI's license will be reclassified as a Class C2, doing 31kW at 515ft.
A couple of reports (from Murfreesboro NC and Chesapeake VA) of the new signal being tested were heard last week. According to the reports and a statement in a FCC filing, EMF will air its Christian CHR "Air 1" format on 97.7. Air 1 targets young adults in the 18-34 demo complimenting its much bigger sister national network, Adult CHR "K-Love" targeting adults 25-54. Air 1 will be heard in all of NE NC and listenable on the Southside of Hampton Roads.

Last month, Hampton Roads Educational Telecommunications Assoc, Inc (WHRO) signed on a new radio station in Emporia, WHRL/88.1. The station is a satellite of NPR/News WHRV/89.5 Norfolk.
In a deal with Roanoke Valley Communications (RVC), WHRO picked up the 88.1 signal from them and also got RVC's new station 90.5/Williamston NC to protect the first adjacent full service Class B signal of WHRO/90.3 Norfolk.
Including WHRL/88.1, WHRO has signed-on eight new radio signals this past year.

Over the holidays, the FCC approved an application from Liberty University to move it translator at 97.7/Suffolk (W249BH) to 107.3 and increase its power to a 250 watts (directional).
In the application, Liberty stated that it needed to find a new frequency because it will be displaced by Lifeline Ministries (soon to be owned by Educational Media Foundation, K-Love) full service Class C2 WGTI/97.7 Winfall NC. Liberty is the landlord of the WGTI tower site and says, "construction of WGTI is imminent."
Also in the application, the new 107.3 signal will rebroadcast the signal of WHRO-HD4 which is doing Liberty's "Victory FM," based in Lynchburg. This will compliment with what Liberty recently started doing on its 98.3/Virginia Beach (W252CB) signal.

The station was dropped three years when papers to be filed for continuing carriage on DirecTV were too late. DirecTV is only carrying Channel 4 is SD (standard definition).
In other WSKY news, the station is dropping NBCUniversal/InterMedia Partners' Universal Sports seen over-the-air on channel 4-2 and on Verizon FiOS (channel 464). The network is repositioning itself as a national sports network (and going high definition) instead of an over-the-air digital multicast (diginet) network beginning January 1.
We've learned that the station at this time is not replacing the channel with another diginet.

Red Zebra Broadcasting's Sports "102.1 The Game" WXTG Virginia Beach has had to reduce its power due to an internal failure of their antenna. The station which usually broadcasts directional at 6K watts is now doing just 375 watts non-directional.
Listeners in Norfolk, Portsmouth, northwestern Chesapeake and NE NC might have (much) more trouble picking up The Game on FM but the station also simulcasts on AM 1490 Hampton.
Full power is expected in mid-January 2012 when the new antenna is installed.
