:// Local News on Cable on Cox to shut down
  |

LNC5We've learned that Local News on Cable (LNC5), a joint venture between Belo's WVEC/13 (ABC) Hampton/Norfolk, Cox Communications Hampton Roads, and The Virginian-Pilot, is ceasing operations on December 31. LNC5 is owned by Belo.

The cable-only news channel launched in late February 1997 (as LNC4 on Cox Cable channel 4, later moving to channel 5 after the addition of WSKY/4 IND to the channel line-up). LNC5 stopped airing the LIVE "Pilot 13 News" newscast at 10 p.m. back in January 2009 after the channel started losing money in 2008. From that point on, the channel simply aired recycled WVEC newscasts.

In a statement to Cox customers, they said, "It has not yet been determined what content will air on channel 5 after December 31. Once this decision has been made, Cox will inform customers of this new programming."
