:// Piedmont GM steps down, replacement just announced

Late last month, Piedmont Communications (WJMA/103.1 Culpeper, WOJL/105.5 Louisa, WCVA/Culpeper//WVCV/Orange) GM/CE Gary Harrison left his position. He stays on at Piedmont as the cluster's chief engineer but more of his time will be spent with the technical staff at Virginia Tech's Public Radio WVTF/Roanoke.

Kevin Dalton has just been announced as the new GM. Dalton previously was with AP Radio as Director of Sales.

101.9 The River, WJVRFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE... Radio station WJVR-FM is a new Hot AC radio station serving the Alleghany Highlands of western Virginia. This new station takes place of WXCF-FM, Mix 104 which moved its city of license from Clifton Forge, VA to Big Island, VA near Lynchburg in February. WJVR-FM will use the moniker of 101.9, The River: Playing Today's Best Music and All of Your Favorites From The Last 40 Years.

"This has been a long-time coming," says Jay Montana, Program Director of The River. "Our audience has been stuck with one station in the area that plays Country music and we have been told, quite abruptly, that not everyone enjoys Country music and they really enjoyed having a choice. Now, that choice is back and I couldn't be more excited."

WVJR-FM - 101.9, The River will also be the local affiliate of Virginia Tech athletics, covering VT Football and Basketball. The official website of The River can be found at www.1019TheRiver.com.

Allbritton's "ABC13" WSET Lynchburg/Roanoke has hired Angela Hatcher to work as a reporter in the Lynchburg newsroom. Hatcher spent six years as a reporter and anchor at crosstown Media General WSLS (10/NBC) before leaving in 2011. She spent the last year doing public relations work for Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest, and most recently served as an Executive Producer/Host for Blue Ridge PBS (WBRA/15).

Hatcher replaces Lauren Compton, who left WSET last week for a reporting job at LIN TV's WAVY (10/NBC) Portsmouth/Norfolk. She is a Hampton Roads native and is returning home after three years in Lynchburg. Compton started at WAVY today.

13NEWS, WVECTwo big announcements out of Belo's WVEC (13/ABC) Hampton/Norfolk today.

First, the station canned its News Director, Rich Lebenson, after 7+ years of service there. No announcement on his replacement.

Second, Channel 13 names its new President and GM; VP/GM Brad Ramsey from Gray Television's Charlottesville Newsplex ("CBS19" WCAV, "ABC16" WVAW, "FOX27" WAHU). Ramsey started out at Gray's station in Harrisonburg (WHSV 3/ABC) in 2000 as a sports anchor/reporter eventually taking the GM at TV3 Winchester (WHSV) reigns in January 2006. He had been with the Charlottesville Newsplex since July 2008 as Vice President and General Manager.

Ramsey, who starts November 5, replaces Tod Smith who is now at sister station WWL (4/CBS) New Orleans.

Dose was most recently with Clear Channel Norfolk for 10 years in various on- and off-air positions until being let go at "92.1 KISS FM" WKSA Moyock/Norfolk in March 2011. He came to Hampton Roads from Atlanta in 2001 to start up the East Coast's first all Hip-Hop station "92.1 The Beat" WBHH.

Dose starts at Vibe next Monday; October 22.

XL102, WRXLAt 10 a.m., Clear Channel Media & Entertainment Alternative "102-1 The X" WRXL Richmond began using its old positioner "XL102, Richmond's Rock Station." The station used "XL102" from 1976 until September 2002 when they went to "102-1 The X."

WRXL's name change comes on the heels of Cox Media's slight adjustment of WKLR's playlist to include 90's rock titles and it's new positioner "Rock 96.5." For now, no music changes at XL102.

Gray Television's WHSV (3/ABC) Harrisonburg has added the Me-TV diginet to it's OTA (over-the-air) lineup on channel 3.4 (Comcast channel 2). Me-TV (Memorable entertainment television) programs classic TV from the 1970s and 1980s.

WHSV programs "MyValley," a MyNetworkTV (MNT) affiliation, on 3.4. Outside of MNT programming WHSV will use Me-TV displacing another classic TV diginet called "this tv."

Local TV LLC "NewsChannel 3" WTKR (CBS) Norfolk general assignment reporter Alize Proisy has left the station. She was seen today on Gray Television's WITN (7/NBC) Washington/Greenville NC reporting news for that station's Jacksonville news bureau.

Proisy was a reporter in that market last summer at Bonten Media Group's "NewsChannel 12" WCTI New Bern/Greenville eventually joining Channel 3 in August 2011.

Proisy's exit appeared to be quick. After a reader inquiry just two weeks ago on her WTKR Facebook fan page, she stated that she was still with the station, reporting for the morning newscasts. That post is now gone as is her WTKR bio. Her new bio for WITN is already LIVE.

"WAVY News 10 at 7 on FOX43" will feature on-air personalties WAVY uses from 4:30 to 7 a.m. on channel 10 - Don Roberts and Cheryl Tan anchoring, and weather with Jeremy Wheeler. The new newscast will go up against Local TV LLC's "WGNT News" ("CW27" Portsmouth) featuring "NewsChannel 3" WTKR (CBS) Norfolk news personalities. FOX43 will continue to air the nationally syndicated morning show "The Daily Buzz" from 6-7 a.m. and then 8-9 a.m.
